FSC certification enables Edison Litho and its clients to better protect the environmentFor decades, Edison Litho has done its part to protect the environment by conscientiously recycling make-ready sheets and metal printing plates. But never a company to rest on its laurels, Edison Litho has now received certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI).These designations highlight Edison Litho’s commitment to the planet. We are proud to be doing all we can to protect our environment. But FSC and SFI certifications are much more than that. They are also a validation of our production standardsand systems which are capable of tracing a sheet of paper back to its source. The Forest Stewardship Council (commonly referred to as the FSC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging responsible management of the world’s forests. It sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way. The FSC’s model of certification allows products that originate from certified forests to enter the marketplace with a credential that is unique, ensuring that every FSC-labeled product can be traced back to a certified source. According to the FSC, America is the world’s largest paper purveyor, consuming approximately 100 million tons per year. While paper recycling is indeed beneficial for assisting in forest preservation, only 35% of the USA’s current paper supply is produced using post-consumer pulp, with the remainder being comprised of virgin fibers. Therefore, it has become increasingly clear that proper forest management is a key component in the overall paper manufacturing process and can adequately ensure the industry’s responsible production of paper and board. Clients availing themselves of Edison’s wide variety of FSC certified paper, packaging and promotional materials will undoubtedly benefit by having the ability of informing the general marketplace about their efforts in protecting the planet – a surefire marketing advantage in today’s green-friendly corporate arena. “Edison Litho has always been responsive to the needs of our clients,” says company president, George Gross. “And by offering customers the option of using printing materials in a sustainable manner, we continue to demonstrate that the needs and requirements of our clients – along with the preservation of our planet – are always first and foremost.” |
